Our Grandma Lillian

Living with Grandma Lilian was like living a dream. A hearty breakfast prepared every morning, warm beds and a home-cooked dinner upon arrival home. All in all, Grandma Lilian was the best possible surrogate family I could have wished for.

Lilian was a very special person and very kind indeed. Despite her joy and smile every day, she has a rather sad story behind her. Namely, Lilian’s daughter died 7 months ago. Thus, Lilian confided in us that she had had Erasmus students with her several times. However, after a two-year break, we were her first, because due to her daughter’s illness, she did not have time to take care of students for two years. She also confided in us that she really missed the company of students at her home. She has 11 grandchildren and is quite used to children as well.

On the very first day when we arrived, Lillian warmly welcomed us into her home. Lillian is a very kind, heartfelt lady who helped us navigate Dublin on our first day and even drove us around the neighborhood where we were staying. Every day, a prepared breakfast awaited us in the morning, and a warm dinner in the evening. Her conversations and stories about her family and adventures brought us joy every day.

For the three of us, living with grandma was really the best thing. She took care of us like her own children and even more. Lilian really trusted us and gave us warmth. Throughout the stay, she made sure that we were not hungry and that we felt at home.
